24-Hour Rape Crisis and Information Hotline
Counselors (women and men) serve on the hotline and may accompany survivors to the hospital and police interviews. Training is 40 hours of intensive education on the psychological, medical and legal implications of sexual assault, as well as all forms of oppression and how they are interconnected. Crisis intervention and counseling skills are developed through discussion, role-plays and feedback. Volunteers must complete the application and screening interview process, attend all training sessions, and have access to a private telephone while on-call. Volunteers should also attend two evening meetings per month and fulfill at least a 6 month commitment. Hotline shifts can be scheduled around other commitments. *** MESA also needs counselors who are bilingual in Spanish for our Spanish language hotline. *** If the hotline seems like it may be a good volunteer opportunity for you, please download an application and take a moment to fill it out!

Bilingual Counselors
Counselors (women and men) serve on the Spanish hotline. This includes providing services of translation and interpretation for primary and secondary survivors. Bilingual counselors may accompany survivors to the hospital and police interviews. MESA believes that our counselor should be aware of cultural differences, especially when working with diverse populations.Training includes education on the psychological, medical and legal implications of sexual assault, as well as all forms of oppression and how they are interconnected. Crisis intervention and counseling skills are developed through discussion, role-plays and feedback. Bilingual Counselors also become part of a team of volunteers that pursues creative ways of reaching out to the Latino community and collaborates in this process.

Men Aligned for Social Change (MASC)
This program trains male volunteers from the community to conduct presentations to students in local schools and members of community groups. The focus is on how to end sexual assault, sexual harassment, and other forms of gender violence. Studies have shown that men are more likely to hear this message from other men. We are looking for a diverse group of men ages 16 and up. Volunteers are required to attend a 40-hour training program, one meeting per quarter, and conduct one to two presentations per month. If you are a man concerned about the level of men’s violence in our society and would like to do something to make a difference, our MASC program may be for you. Please download an application and take a moment to fill it out! You may also view a detailed description of the volunteer position.

Peers Building Justice Program
This peer education program is a collaboration between Moving to End Sexual Assault and the Safehouse Progressive Alliance for Nonviolence. The Peer Educators are high school student volunteers who conduct presentations to middle and high school students on the issues of dating abuse, sexual harassment, and sexual assault, and oppression. They play an important role in increasing community awareness about interpersonal violence and all forms of oppression, helping victims get support, and ultimately reducing the occurrence of violence among young people. The Peer Educators Volunteers will receive 20 hours of training, attend program meetings twice a month, and be asked to commit to the program for one school year. If becoming a Peer Educator seems like it may be a good volunteer opportunity for you, please download an application and take a moment to fill it out! You can also visit the Peers Building Justice website for more information about the program.
