Team Leader: Tom Rose

Tom is the Team Leader for MESA. His responsibilities include leadership of the MESA team, personnel management, marketing and public relations, fundraising, budgeting, and financial management, and strategic planning.  Tom graduated from Kansas State Universityin 1983 and began his health care career in 1986. He served as Vice-President of Marketing and Business Development with a psychiatric health care company based in Tucson, Arizona from 1989 to 1996.  The company grew from one facility to16 treatment facilities in nine states throughout the western United States during his seven years of service. During the 1990’s he was also the co-owner of Early Childhood Programs, which developed and provided comprehensive prevention, therapeutic, and experiential education services for young children in Arizona, Hawaii, and Washington.  Before coming to Colorado in 1999 Tom established a stand alone special education program serving 30 students and built and started-up a 38-bed residential treatment center in Hilo, Hawaii.  While in Colorado Tom has worked for four non-profit organizations, most recently as Executive Director of Summit Prevention Alliance in Breckenridge, Colorado.

Program Manager: Emily M. Tofte, MSW

Emily  received her Master’s in Social Work from the Universityof Michiganin 2007 and holds two Bachelor’s degrees (Psychology and Criminal Justice) from Indiana University. She has been working in the field of domestic and sexual violence prevention since 2001. Prior to joining MESA, Emily was the Executive Director of a domestic violence shelter in Montana. At MESA, Emily oversees the Prevention Education and Client Services Departments. Emily joined MESA in November 2008. 

Development Coordinator: Beth Gracely

Beth began as a volunteer in August 2009 to help plan and facilitate MESA’s Brave, Bold & Beautiful Event in October. She continued volunteering with MESA for their annual Spring fundraising event, the Canine Classis, held in April. Beth joined the MESA team as the Development Coordinator in June 2010. Her work will continue with the planning of the fundraising and volunteer appreciation events. Prior to joining the MESA team, Beth worked in marketing and event planning departments for health and wellness companies as well as technology companies.

Project Manager: Audrey Reich, MSW

Audrey joined the MESA team as a Clinical Intern in January 2009. Audrey was hired as the Project Manager in March 2010. Audrey is coordinating a grant that creates a collaborative effort between Imagine! and MESA to serve survivors with disabilities. Prior to working with MESA Audrey worked for Imagine! Innovations. Audrey holds her Master's Degree in Social Work which she received in May 2010.

Client Services Coordinator: Abby Hansen-Eschler, MSW

Abby began working with MESA in May of 2010.  As Client Services Coordinator, Abby is responsible for training and managing a team of volunteers for MESA’s 24-hour rape crisis hotline, and providing case management and follow up support for callers.  She holds a Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Michigan and undergraduate degrees in Developmental Psychology and Women’s Studies from Smith College. Abby began working in the sexual violence field as a hotline volunteer in 2000.


Youth Education Coordinator: Lalo Rivera

Lalo is currently pursuing her Master’s degree in Somatic Psychology at Naropa University. For the past 13 years, Lalo has worked primarily with non-profit organizations in both school and community based settings serving clients in various capacities. Prior to joining MESA, she managed a program for teen mothers that provided education, counseling, and support. Additionally, Lalo has previous experience working and volunteering at other sexual assault organizations.

Education and Training Coordinator: Marti Hopper, Ph.D.

Marti Hopper holds a doctorate degree in clinical psychology from the University of Cincinnati. As
MESA’s Education and Training Coordinator, Marti assists with special projects that address Elder Abuse and abuse on people with disabilities. Marti provides training and consultation for law enforcement, victim advocates, parents, school staff, and numerous other community agency personnel on the topic of understanding and preventing sexual violence.  She also conducts classroom presentations for middle school, high school and college students. Prior to joining MESA
in 2000, she worked in private industry for over 25 years, where she provided management training and consultation. She holds a doctorate in clinical psychology.

Men Standing Up Coordinator:  David Hinojosa
 
David Hinojosa is currently attending the University of Colorado at Boulder where he received the certificate in the Practice and Study of Leadership and is currently pursuing his bachelor’s degree in humanities. He co-founded and currently leads a men’s group at the University of Colorado Boulder campus know as Masculinity Think Tank (MTT) that works to examine and educate on the role of masculinity in sexual assault within the university environment. Prior to joining MESA, he worked as the coordinator for a highly recognized student organization that connects CU Students to over 150 immigrant workers through the process of teaching English classes. Since emigrating from Ecuador 12 years ago he has been involved in work around indigenous rights, workers rights, homelessness, immigrant integration, human rights abuses and patient care as a certified Emergency Medical Technician.

Bilinqual Therapist:   Doris Vargas  

Doris Vargas holds a Master’s Degree in Psychology: Contemplative Psychotherapy from Naropa University. She joined MESA in August of 2010 as a Bilingual Therapist. Doris’ primary goal is to offer quality therapeutic services to Latino and Latina survivors of sexual assault in an effort to decrease suffering and promote health and well-being. Doris has been in the therapeutic field since 2001. Her most recent assignment was as a bilingual case manager for Lantern Community Services in Brooklyn, New York. Prior to working in New York, Doris provided counseling services for Access Counseling and Emergency Psychiatric Service here in Boulder, CO.
